이 곡은 Sean Penn이 감독하고 Jack Nicholson, David Morse가 주연한 1995년 영화 <크로싱 가드 (The Crossing Guard)>의 엔딩 테마로 쓰이기 위해 만들어졌습니다. Adam Duritz와 친구 사이인 Sean Penn이 1994년 여름 무렵, 제작중인 이 영화를 보여 주면서 곡을 써주기를 부탁했다더군요. Miller's angels Adam의 언급에 따르면 이 곡에서 묘사되고 있는 천사는 기존의 이미지와 좀 다릅니다. 자신과 하느님 사이에 존재하면서 햇빛을 가리고 하느님의 은총 가로 막는 존재가 바로 천사일수도 있다는 겁니다. 신의 축복을 가져다 주는 동시에 갑자기 나타나 자신을 휙 낚아채 가 버릴 지도 모르는 양면적 기질을 갖고 있는 천사인 거죠. 곡을 쓴 Adam은 이런 불안을 떨칠 수 없는 사람과 한 순간의 사고로 인생의 나락에 빠져 버린 영화 속 주인공을 연관시킨 듯 합니다.
