Soon the pines
will be falling everywhere
Village children fight each other
for a share
And the 6:09 comes
roaring past the creek
Deacon Lee prepares

And the hedgehog's done in clay

And the rocking chairs are creaking
on the porch
Across the valley moves the herdsman

곧 사방에
솔방울이 떨어지고
마을 아이들은
서로 차지하려고 싸우겠지
6시 9분 열차는
포효하듯 개울을 지나고

언제 헛간 좀 고쳐줄 수 있는지
할머니는 내게 물으셨어
안타깝지만 할머니는
농장에 도움의 손길이 필요해
저 아래 농장에는
새 기계가 들어왔어
감독관 말로는
인력을 15명이나 줄여준대
제이크 어르신은
그게 순리가 아니라고 말하곤 했어
그분은 죽는 날까지
마부였거든
늙고 살찐 거위는
이제 장작 위로 날아오르고
고슴도치는 벽돌사이에
진흙으로 집을 다 지었어
현관에는
흔들의자가 삐걱거리고
횃불을 든 목동이
계곡을 지나가네
