Long, long ago, in a time
that cannot
even be remembered
A very lonely angel
stood out
upon the farthest edge of
Heaven
There he would sit
for many hours
at a time
gazing down into the world
far below
From there he could see all
of the different people of the world
dreaming and living happily
in the land
of their of own imagination
And he thought
about this quite deeply
Poor angel, how sad he was
For there
were no dreams in Heaven
Nor the any
of the other angels
even talk of such
things
One day he became so unhappy
That
he cried out I would forget Heaven
and
all her angels if I could have
just
one dream of my own
And as he sat back sobbing
A blinding
light's striking
A magnificent voice
rang forth saying
So you'd rather forget us, would you?
Then
a lifetime of dream shall be yours
If
to this you agree
Nothing of Heaven
Shall
you remember
Not even a way to return
You
must leave us your memory
for the exile
you earn
I agree, cried the angel
And over
the edge of Heaven he fell
Tumbling,
tumbling down through
the edges remembering
nothing as well

기억도 할 수 없는
아주 먼 옛날에
너무도
외로운 천사가
천국의 가장자리에 서 있었어
천사는 그 자리에서
한 번에 몇 시간이고
앉아서
저 아래 세상을 바라 보고는 했지
거기서
천사는 자신의 상상으로
만들어진 땅에서
꿈을 꾸며
행복하게 살아가는 각기 다른
사람들을
바라보면서
골똘히 생각했어
아무런 꿈도 없는 천국에 사는
천사는
얼마나 불쌍한가
다른 그 어느 천사도
이런
얘기는 한 적이 없었어
어느 날 몹시도 우울해진 천사는
자신만의
꿈을 단 하나라도
가질 수 있다면 천국과
모든 천사들을
잊어버리겠다고 소리 질렀어
천사가 주저앉아 흐느끼고 있을 때
눈부신
빛이 비치고
우렁찬 목소리가 들려왔어
천국은 잊어도 좋단 말이지?
그것만
동의한다면
평생 동안 꿈을 꿀 수 있으리라
더
이상의 천국은 없노라
그리고 다시 돌아
올 수도
없다는 걸 기억하거라
천국을
떠날 때
모든 기억은 남겨 둬야 해
천사는 그렇게 하겠다고 소리쳤어
그리고
천국의 가장자리로 떨어진 천사는
아무
것도 기억하지 못한 채
추락하고 추락했지
처음 일 년이 어땠는지 기억나지 않아

처음으로 궁금했던 것과

흘렸던 눈물도 말이야
나는 언제나 나였고
